About the designer

From an early age, Anthony Barrese, CEO & Principal Designer of BARR Building Design, has had a strong interest in design, construction, and the process of turning ideas into built form. That interest began with building and designing LEGO houses as a child, evolved into creating residential concepts in SketchUp throughout high school, and ultimately developed into a career in building design. Today, Anthony combines his BCIN certifications in House and Small Buildings with practical drafting and construction experience to bring these concepts to real-world projects.

Anthony studied Civil Engineering Technology at Durham College, developing a strong technical foundation in civil engineering, construction, and project delivery. His professional experience has provided exposure to multiple stages of the built environment, including land development, materials testing, construction inspection, project coordination, and building design.

Among his project experience is project coordination for the King Street Bridge Culvert Rehabilitation, where he coordinated with multiple sub-consultants and regulatory bodies to support the successful delivery of an emergency rehabilitation project within a demanding schedule. Anthony also gained extensive field experience on the Elm Tree Road Bridge Rehabilitation, conducting structural inspections throughout demolition and the detailed reconstruction of the existing public bridge.

Anthony’s background in semi-professional sport has further shaped his approach to both design and project delivery. The discipline, attention to detail, and drive for continuous improvement developed through competitive sport carry directly into his professional work—bringing a determined and detail-oriented mindset to every project.
